ASI Grab Bars

ASI (American Specialties) grab bars include straight, 90-degree angle, two-wall horizontal, swing-up, wall-to-floor, and security styles. Narrow your choice by bar shape and length for each location, then by diameter (1-1/4" or 1-1/2"), flange type (snap, exposed, or concealed), grip surface (smooth or peened), and finish. Plan wall backing before installation, since every grab bar depends on secure anchorage.

Pick the Shape for the Location

  • Straight grab bars: lengths from 12" to 48" for side and rear toilet walls, showers, and tubs. Models with intermediate support add a middle mounting point on longer runs.
  • 90-degree angle and two-wall horizontal bars: offered in left- and right-hand versions for corners where a continuous bar wraps two walls.
  • Swing-up grab bars (ASI 3413 and 3500 series swing-up models): fold out of the way where a fixed wall bar is not possible, such as beside a toilet with an open transfer side. Versions are available with an integral toilet tissue holder or a support leg.
  • Wall-to-floor grab bars: include outrigger and toilet tissue holder versions for locations needing floor support.
  • Straddle grab bar (ASI 3434-P): a peened, exposed-flange design for specific transfer layouts.
  • Security grab bars (ASI 159-169): front- and rear-mounted stainless steel bars for detention and behavioral-health settings. Also see ASI security accessories.

Installation and Accessibility Planning

Grab bars are only as strong as the wall behind them. Coordinate solid blocking or backing in framed walls before drywall or tile, and use fasteners suited to the wall type. ASI 3900 and 3901 sheet metal screw packs are listed for the 3400/3500 and 3700/3800 series. Bar lengths, heights, and positions should come from your project's accessibility drawings; selecting a particular model does not by itself make a restroom accessible.

Maintenance

Include grab bars in routine inspections: check for loose flanges, movement at the wall, and damage to finishes. Swing-up models have moving parts that should be checked for smooth operation and secure locking.
