Portable Eyewash Units: Guardian and Haws

Use a portable eyewash where a plumbed water connection is unavailable, temporary or mobile work changes the hazard location, or freeze conditions require a purpose-built unit. Compare Guardian and Haws gravity-fed, air-pressurized, heated, tempered and eyewash/drench-hose models by capacity, maintenance, power and placement.

Gravity-Fed or Air-Pressurized?

Gravity-fed units do not require compressed air. Follow the selected model’s mounting, placement and fill instructions, and consider tank capacity, filled weight and service access before choosing a location.

Air-pressurized models, including Haws 7603-series and Guardian portable units, provide a pressurized self-contained supply. Follow the selected manufacturer’s filling, pressurization, pressure-check and fluid-maintenance instructions. Choose them based on how they are filled, pressurized and maintained—not simply because the tank is larger.

When Heating or Insulation Is Necessary

Choose among heated, tempered or insulated configurations according to the selected model’s ambient range and electrical requirements. An insulation jacket is not the same as an electrically heated unit; confirm what is heated and the model’s voltage, cord and GFCI requirements.

Plan for Filling, Inspection and Maintenance

  • Filled weight and whether the unit must be moved
  • Fluid replacement, treatment and inspection schedule
  • 9-, 15-, 16- or 37-gallon capacity and operating duration for the selected model
  • Wall bracket, cart or fixed support requirements
  • Power availability for heated blankets or self-contained heating

If a dependable potable-water connection is available at a permanent location, a plumbed Eyewash Station will usually avoid tank filling and fluid-maintenance tasks. For cold-weather plumbed fixtures, review Freeze-Resistant Safety Equipment.
