ASI 3551 Swing-Up Grab Bar, Exposed-Flange Stainless Steel
The ASI 3551 is a surface-mounted, exposed-flange swing-up grab bar with a 1-1/2" diameter stainless steel bar. Its vertical gravity lock must be manually released to lower the bar.

- Type 304, 18-8 stainless steel construction with a satin finish; 18-gauge tubing measures 1-1/2" in diameter.
- The mounting bracket is 7-gauge plate with six 5/16" mounting holes.
- A solid axle and twin torsion-spring counterbalance support one-hand operation.
- The gravity lock holds the bar vertically until manually released; a tamper-resistant set screw can lock it in the vertical position.
- A plastic end cap cushions contact with the wall plate when the bar is in use.
Mounting and operation
Provide concealed blocking or an anchor plate before finishing the wall. Appropriate fastening hardware, anchors, and concealed mounting plates are not supplied. The manufacturer identifies wall mounting as critical to its 250 lb load guidance, so the fastener system and substrate must be adequately sized for the loads. The owner is responsible for periodic inspection and any needed repairs.
For the manufacturer’s ADA installation guidance for adults, position the top of the horizontal bar 33" to 36" above the finished floor; confirm the complete installation against applicable requirements. A non-slip peened gripping surface is available by adding suffix -P.
