ASI 3801-12P 12-inch Peened Straight Grab Bar
This 12-inch straight grab bar has a 1-1/2-inch-OD tube and snap-on flange covers that conceal the mounting screws. The model’s -P suffix specifies the peened option for a non-slip surface. The manufacturer specifies type 304 stainless steel, 18-gauge tubing, and a 1/8-inch-thick flange; the type 304 stainless steel cover is 22 gauge with a satin finish.
Mounting considerations
The concealed mounting flange is 3-1/8 inches in outside diameter, with two screw holes and three locking dimples; the cover is 3-3/16 inches in diameter. Use the bar as a template to mark and pre-drill mounting holes. The manufacturer specifies two #10 self-tapping pan-head screws and flat washers, or another fastener system suited to the conditions at each flange; these are by others. Appropriate anchoring and backing must be provided before wall finishing. ASI anchors must be specified separately. The manufacturer’s installation guidance for 2010 ADA Accessibility Standards calls for the top of the bar to be 33 to 36 inches above finished floor; installation and wall mounting affect whether the requirements are met.
