ASI 3801-18P 18-Inch Peened Straight Grab Bar
This 18-inch grab bar has 1-1/2-inch O.D. type 304 stainless steel tubing with a peened surface. The concealed-mount flange is 1/8 inch thick and has two screw holes; a type 304 stainless steel, 22-gauge cover snaps over three locking dimples to conceal the mounting screws. The cover has a satin finish and measures 3-3/16 inches in diameter; the flange measures 3-1/8 inches in diameter. Manufacturer specifications identify the tubing as 18 gauge.
Installation considerations
- Use the bar as a template to mark and pre-drill mounting holes. No. 10 self-tapping pan-head screws and flat washers, or another suitable fastener system, are by others.
- Provide appropriate anchoring and wall backing before wall finishing. ASI anchors are available but must be specified separately.
- ASI states its grab bars are designed to meet and exceed cited accessibility requirements; mounting is critical. Manufacturer guidance for 2010 ADA Accessibility Standards specifies the bar top at 33 to 36 inches above finished floor. Installation and anchoring must suit the project conditions.
