ASI 3413 Swing-Up Grab Bar
This 12-inch-long, surface-mounted bar is fabricated from Type 304 stainless steel alloy 18-8, with 18-gauge, 1-1/4-inch-diameter tubing and exposed satin-finish surfaces. The welded construction has radiused, burr-free exposed edges and corners. Its mounting bracket is 9-gauge plate with seven 1/4-inch mounting holes; the hinge uses 1-1/2-inch-diameter tubing, a solid axle, and an adjustable friction sleeve. A hex-head clamp bolt adjusts movement tension. The bar operates with one hand, and a bumper prevents the raised bar from striking the wall. A plastic end cap cushions contact with the wall plate when the bar is in use.
Installation and upkeep
Provide concealed anchor plate or blocking before finishing the wall. Anchors or concealed mounting plates and fastening hardware are not supplied; the installer must fasten through all seven mounting holes with appropriate hardware and ensure the mounting configuration meets applicable local requirements. ASI’s guidance for adult use under the 2010 ADA Accessibility Standards is to install the top of the horizontal bar 33–36 inches above the finished floor; this is manufacturer guidance, not a blanket compliance guarantee.
The bar lowers manually to its horizontal support position and raises for departure. The owner can adjust balance tension by tightening or loosening the clamp bolt. Periodically inspect operation and adjust or repair as needed, since use may loosen tension over time.
