ASI 3401-24 24-Inch Straight Grab Bar with Exposed Flanges
The ASI 3401-24 is a 24-inch straight grab bar for installations specifying a 1-1/4-inch outside-diameter bar with exposed mounting flanges. It is made of Type 304 stainless steel with a satin finish; its 18-gauge tube distinguishes this model's construction.
Specifications and mounting
- Type 304 alloy 18-8 stainless steel tube, 1-1/4-inch (32 mm) outside diameter and 18 gauge (0.048 inch/1.2 mm).
- Satin-finish exposed surfaces; the 3-inch (76 mm) diameter flanges are 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick and continuously concealed-welded to the tube.
- Each flange has three countersunk 9/32-inch (7 mm) holes for 1/4-inch pan-head or No. 10 self-tapping flat-head or oval-head screws.
- Mounting screws are not provided. Use the bar as a template to mark and pre-drill holes; provide suitable anchoring and wall backing before finishing the wall.
- Select a fastener system for the conditions at each flange. The manufacturer notes that adequate fastening and backing are critical to the mounted grab-bar system's strength.
For installation intended to comply with the 2010 ADA Accessibility Standards, the manufacturer specifies positioning the top of the grab bar 33 to 36 inches above the finished floor. Installation and compliance depend on the project conditions and applicable requirements.
