ASI 162 Front-Mounted Security Grab Bar
This 30-inch Type 304 stainless steel grab bar has a satin finish, 1-1/2-inch-diameter tubing with an 18-gauge wall, and welded 1/8-inch-thick flanges. A 12-gauge stainless steel closure plate is welded beneath the bar; the manufacturer describes it as an anti-ligature feature with a built-in drainage system. Each flange has three mounting holes for 1/4-inch-diameter screws.
Mount to a finished wall using six appropriately sized fasteners and suitable wall anchors, prepared mountings, or other hardware for the wall conditions. Fasteners and mounting provisions are by others. The manufacturer states that wall attachment is critical to the grab-bar system's load performance and must withstand the resulting shear, tension or pullout, and torsion loads. Its installation guidance for the stated 2010 ADA positioning is to place the top of the bar 33 to 36 inches above finished floor; this is manufacturer guidance, not a blanket compliance guarantee.
