How the iStorm2 Dries Hands
The iStorm2 is different from a traditional hands-under dryer. Users place their hands into the large drying opening, where high-speed air is directed around the hands to remove moisture quickly.
Palmer designed the airflow to move water down and away from the user rather than allowing it to collect on the surrounding floor.
The drying format also lets users keep their hands in a natural position rather than holding them beneath a wall-mounted outlet.
Water Management and Ceramic Backsplash
One of the iStorm2's most distinctive features is its water-management system.
A water-absorbing ceramic backsplash helps capture moisture removed from the hands. Excess water is directed toward the dryer's drain tray rather than being pushed onto the floor around the unit.
This design is intended to reduce water splash-back and help keep the surrounding restroom floor drier during normal use.
HEPA Filtration
The iStorm2 includes a 3-layer HEPA filter. Palmer Fixture states that the filtration system removes more than 99% of airborne bacteria from the incoming air stream.
The filter is part of the dryer's air-intake system and should be maintained according to the manufacturer's instructions to preserve airflow and filtration performance.
Adjustable Airspeed
The iStorm2 uses an adjustable motor rated from approximately 11,000 to 20,000 RPM.
Palmer also lists adjustable warm-air speed from approximately 140 to 224 mph. This gives facility managers some control over the balance between drying performance and sound.
Heater On or Off
The iStorm2 includes a switchable heating element, allowing the dryer to operate with or without supplemental heat.
| Operating Mode | Approx. Power |
| Heater On |
Up to 1,600W |
| Heater Off |
Approx. 700W |
Turning the heater off can significantly reduce connected operating wattage while retaining the high-speed airflow used for drying.
Sound Level
Palmer Fixture publishes an operating sound range of approximately 65 to 78 dB depending on airflow setting and operating conditions.
Real-world sound will vary with motor setting, restroom size, wall materials and surrounding surfaces.
