Every company has a beginning. Ours started in a basement.
In the early 2000s, Anthony DiCicco was working a full-time career in software and web development. With a background in programming and database architecture, he built enterprise-level web applications for a living. But after nearly 15 years in tech, something was missing. He didn’t want to just build systems for other people—he wanted to build a future for his family. So, while working days in software, he spent nights and weekends experimenting with online business models.
That’s where the spark for ProDryers was born.
In 2003, Anthony began selling hand dryers online as a side project. There were no investors, no warehouse, no staff—just a computer in the basement, a few product pages, and the drive to make it work. Orders were managed manually. Shipping labels were printed one by one. Packaging was done at home while his wife and newborn were asleep. It was long hours, low margins, and a lot of uncertainty—but there was also something else: a growing sense of purpose.
By 2006, Anthony took a leap of faith. He left his corporate job and officially launched ProDryers under his newly formed company, Category Five Technologies, Inc. With the tech background to build his own eCommerce platform and the work ethic to scale the business from scratch, he began laying the foundation for what would become one of the most trusted names in the commercial restroom supply industry.
But success didn’t happen overnight. He relied on his education—particularly his time at Henry Ford and Walsh Colleges, where his first formal business training gave him the confidence and knowledge to take calculated risks and think like a founder. In fact, Anthony credits that education as the bridge between his early vision and the execution that followed.
Growth came through persistence, transparency, and a commitment to getting things right. He didn’t just add more products—he carefully curated the catalog, working only with top-tier manufacturers like Excel Dryer, Dyson, World Dryer, Sloan, and Koala Kare. He didn’t hire a large team—he built a small, expert-driven one. And he didn’t outsource support—he made it personal, ensuring every call or email came with real answers from people who cared.
Eventually, ProDryers outgrew the basement, then outgrew the home. The business moved into warehouse space in Livonia, Michigan, where it still operates today. It has since expanded to four warehouse suites. With tens of thousands of customers across North America and a reputation for expert service and fast fulfillment, ProDryers has become more than a supplier—it’s become a trusted partner to contractors, facility managers, schools, government agencies, architects, and business owners nationwide.
Yet no matter how far we’ve come, we’ve never forgotten how it started.
